Yes! It's true. Vintage Jewelry (or Jewellery, if you're British) adds that special spark to your wardrobe that you just can't find in modern accessories. If you don't have much experience with vintage earrings, brooches and other vintage pieces then you may think that 'vintage' means old and stuffy. But, that's simply not the case.

Vintage baubles come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. While it's true that you can find very elegant and elaborate pieces, there are also a myriad of vintage accessories that scream 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun.' So, if you want a luxurious brooch to wear on your favorite gown for a debutante ball then you won't have any problem finding such an item in the vintage arena. On the other hand, if you just want a fantastic pair of colorful, funky earrings to go with your favorite jean jacket you can easily find them if you shop vintage.

There's such a huge inventory of vintage jewels out there that I can't begin to tell you about all of the choices available to you. But, let's just take a look at some of the more interesting and fun vintage treasures.

During what is commonly known as the Arts and Crafts era, jewelry was simple in design, intricately made, and quite colorful. In this period we find great pieces that may include colored glass, colored stones such as turquoise and amethyst, and enameling. You can wear these fantastic vintage items with just about anything in your closet.

Then there's the Art Nouveau period that started with French designers. These pieces have a mystical feel and are infused with femininity. The lines tend to be smooth, curved, and flowing on this jewelry. These items were generally created around things found in nature. You'll see dragonflies, nymphs, flowers and the like in the vintage earring, necklaces, and other pieces from this era. Add a whimsical touch to an edgy outfit by adding a vintage necklace or bracelet.

Jewelry from the Art Deco era is dazzling and bold. Look for geometric shapes with strong angles and lines. Arrows, sphinxes, rockets, and scarabs are some common themes you see in this style. Long earrings and flapper beads are especially fun vintage items from this period. Fine jewelry pieces from this time contain lots of platinum and white gold. Much of the costume jewelery is fun because it is made from a really diverse group of materials. Bakelite and celluloid plastics were used often and create a funky beat when added to your favorite dress or jacket.
